Our Horses
Our Horses and Their Well-Being
At Cornacchino, our horses live in full harmony with their natural needs and are considered reliable and safe partners in everyday work and riding activities.
More than 60 horses live in small outdoor herds across over 100 hectares of pastureland, in a management system that respects their natural need for movement, social interaction, and freedom. This approach to horse welfare is at the core of our philosophy.
Our horses are known for their calm temperament, trust, and willingness to cooperate. We care for them as true partners, striving to preserve their natural essence and to support their physical and emotional well-being.
Natural Horse Training Based on Trust and Respect
All horse training at Cornacchino is personally overseen by Fabio Tascone, following his Natural Western training method.
The foundation of our approach is building trust between horse and human. Training progresses gradually and respectfully, introducing the movements needed for safe and enjoyable riding in the countryside:
walk, jog, trot, canter, gallop, backing up, lateral movements, lead changes, transitions, small jumps, and water crossings.
Throughout the training process, horses work mainly outdoors in a natural environment, learning through positive experiences that increase confidence, balance, and reliability.
Western Riding in Natural Environments
Western riding is especially suited for long rides and working in natural landscapes.
With a well-trained horse and a rider with a solid foundation, it allows riders to face challenging terrain safely and comfortably.
From the rider’s perspective, western riding requires less physical strain and offers smooth, comfortable gaits. Even after a full day on horseback, riders feel relaxed rather than exhausted.
For the horse, the western saddle distributes the rider’s weight over a wider surface than an English saddle and keeps the center of gravity low, supporting balance, comfort, and long-term soundness.
