During your holiday, a visit to the tufa villages cannot be missed. Pitigliano, classified as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, and Sorano, which will amaze you with their position perched on a tufa wall and their characteristic historical centres. Sovana, also listed among 'the most beautiful villages in Italy', is also very beautiful to visit. Sovana was the birthplace of Ildebrando di Sovana, later to become Pope Gregory VII, who had the magnificent cathedral of St. Peter built there in the 10th century.
These villages are located in the area of the 'Parco Archeologico delle Città del Tufo', with various Etruscan remains, such as the famous Ildebranda tomb and the various vie cave, excavated by the Etruscans more than 2000 years ago. These narrow, winding hollows are ideal for walks in all seasons; even in summer, they remain cool with lush, deep green vegetation.

Not far from Cornacchino is Monte Amiata, an ancient, now extinct volcano, 1738 metres high and surrounded by the largest beech forest in Europe, an ideal destination for forest walks and also popular with mushroom hunters in autumn. An adventure park and various mountain bike trails are available in summer.
On the slopes of Monte Amiata there are several villages to visit, including Santa Fiora (among "the most beautiful villages in Italy") with its fishpond and characteristic historical centre, Abbadia S. Salvatore, an important centre on the Via Francigena. Noteworthy is the Benedictine Abbey founded in 743 by the Longobard king Rachis. In both villages you will find an interesting mining museum, evidence of a not too distant past. Another important economic source over the centuries has been the chestnut harvest, still witnessed by the various festivals held in every Amiata village in autumn.

For the summer, we recommend a swim in Bolsena Lake, a lake of volcanic origin, one of the largest in Italy with its black sand beaches and, of course, several restaurants where you can enjoy typical lake fish dishes.
Worth visiting are the three towns bordering the lake, Bolsena, Marta, Capodimonte and the Bisentina Island.
Not far from Bolsena, we recommend a stop at Civita di Bagnoregio, known as the dying town, due to the erosion of the gullies surrounding it, which is slowly consuming it.

If you are looking for the more classic Tuscany, known for its rolling hills and gullies, with farms and cypress trees, we recommend the Val d'Orcia with its best-known villages Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza and as far as Siena. But the Val d'Orcia also offers other pearls, such as Bagni Vignoni and Monticchiello, and of course it will enchant you with its breathtaking landscapes that offer splendid views of a thousand colours in every season.

What could be better after a ride than relaxing at the thermal baths? There are many in the area, from the nearest in Sorano, to the most famous in Saturnia, but also those in Bagni San Filippo and San Casciano dei Bagni, a village that has made headlines for the exceptional Etruscan findings in the area of the thermal baths.

Not everyone knows that the closest city to Cornacchino is Orvieto. A city recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it will enchant you with its historic centre of a thousand narrow streets, its monuments, its cuisine and the breathtaking view of the Umbrian countryside.

Enchanting to visit are the Monster Garden in Bomarzo, near Viterbo, Daniel Spoerri's garden on the Amiata and Niki de Saint Phalle's Tarot Garden in Capalbio.
The former will certainly appeal to your children, thanks to its large statues also depicting various animals. Daniel Spoerri's garden, on the other hand, as well as offering a splendid view of the beautiful Seggiano area, will amaze you thanks to the numerous works by this Swiss artist and others of his colleagues. The Tarot Garden remains a little further away, but certainly interesting to combine perhaps with a day's break at the seaside. This garden is an explosion of shapes, colours and emotions thanks to the sculptures of artist Niki de Saint Phalle.
